About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Ancien Port is the oldest part of Port du Lavandou, a fishing and pleasure harbour in the Var department on the French Riviera. This historic basin was built in the early 1950s, when the former eastern breakwater was converted into a mole and complemented by a quay, and it now sits side by side with the much newer main section of the port.
In Ancien Port, boats lie moored to chains rather than on floating pontoons, and the water depth in this basin is only around 1.5-2.5 metres, considerably shallower than in the port's other basins and outer harbour. The whole port complex is reached through an entrance roughly 50 metres wide, and incoming boats are normally guided in via VHF.
As part of the overall port complex, berths have access to fresh water and shore power, and there are sanitary buildings with toilets in the harbour. There is a fuel station at the entrance to the new harbour, a slipway with nearby parking, mobile equipment for pumping out holding tanks, and a wifi zone near the harbour office.
The harbour began life as a fishing port and is today a popular destination with cafés, restaurants and shops within walking distance of the boats. Tie up on the chains in the charming old harbour and experience the authentic atmosphere of Le Lavandou's historic waterfront.
