About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Anse Deshaies is a well-protected bay on the northwest coast of Basse-Terre in Guadeloupe, right next to the small fishing harbour of the village of Deshaies. The bay is regarded as one of the island's most beautiful and popular anchorages, sheltered from winds ranging from north to southeast.
Sailors can either anchor freely within the designated anchoring zone or pick up one of the paid mooring buoys that the authorities have laid out to protect the seabed. Deshaies also serves as a port of entry and exit, with clearance formalities completed via a computer terminal ashore. Note that the bay is open to the north, which can at times create an uncomfortable swell, while the approach from the south offers safe, hazard-free access.
In the village you'll find a selection of restaurants and bars along the waterfront, as well as cafés offering paid wifi. For everyday provisions there is a small Spar shop and a modest produce stand, so larger shopping should be done elsewhere.
The colourful Creole fishing village is known as a filming location for the TV series "Death in Paradise", and from the anchorage it's a short walk to the village's restaurants, the botanical garden, and surrounding beaches such as Grande Anse. Pick up a buoy or drop your anchor here and experience one of Guadeloupe's most picturesquely situated anchorages, with the village right at your doorstep.
