About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Avant-Port is the outer harbour basin of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, an active fishing and pleasure harbour located 8 nautical miles south of Pointe de Barfleur in the Baie de Seine, facing the island of Tatihou. It is the third largest harbour in the Manche department, with a total of 760 berths, 80 of which are for visitors.
Entry is through a lock into the harbour's tidal basin, and access is limited to roughly 2 hours 15 minutes before and 3 hours after high tide for a tidal coefficient below 50. The harbour welcomes boats up to 35 metres with a maximum draft of 2.30 metres. Visitor berths are allocated by boat length on pontoon B (over 14 m), C (12-14 m) and E (under 12 m).
On the pontoons you'll find water and electricity included in the price, clean sanitary facilities with showers, a laundry, fuel at pontoon A, and wifi. Bike rental is available, and there is a slipway for building and repairing smaller boats.
Around the harbour there are numerous restaurants and shops. From the harbour you can sail or take the amphibious boat to the island of Tatihou with its Vauban tower (UNESCO World Heritage), bird reserve and maritime museum. The harbour holds the Blue Flag and Qualité Plaisance***** labels and is the first Normandy harbour certified Ports Propres for active biodiversity — come and discover this charming harbour in the Cotentin.
