About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Bakhúster Haven is a small association-run harbour in the village of Bakhuizen in southwest Friesland, in the area known as Gaasterland, part of the De Fryske Marren municipality. The harbour is operated by the "Bakhuister haven" association, which non-profit provides moorings for larger and smaller motorboats as well as rowing and fishing boats. The association has 27 large berths and 25 berths for rowing and fishing boats, and is primarily aimed at residents of the villages of Bakhuizen, Mirns and Rijs, from whose village council it also historically originated (founded in April 1992).
As a visiting sailor you can moor either in the new harbour or at the stone quay, where the association has set aside space for several guest boats.
Bakhuizen sits on a boulder-clay hill already mentioned in 1412, and is surrounded by the wooded, hilly landscape of Gaasterland close to the IJsselmeer. Within walking distance of the harbour you'll find the village's multifunctional centre with a sports hall (de Gearte), football and tennis grounds, a Spar grocery shop, the De Burde business park, and an ice rink. The village's attractive Roman Catholic church is dedicated to St. Odulphus. Moor up and explore this small, welcoming Frisian village and its scenic surroundings.
