About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Ballinamore is a public marina on the Shannon-Erne Waterway in County Leitrim, part of the reopened canal linking the Shannon and Erne systems. The marina sits beside the town of Ballinamore and is one of the fully serviced public marinas along the waterway.
As at the other public moorings along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, the general rule allows craft to berth in public harbours for five consecutive days or seven days in total per month, and locks and facilities normally operate from 9am to 8pm daily. Electricity and water supply at the moorings is disconnected over the winter months to prevent frost damage and is reinstated before the next boating season.
The marina offers showers, public toilets, laundry facilities, a pump-out for holding tanks, and a slipway for launching. Electricity and drinking water are available at the berths outside the winter season.
From the marina you can walk a signposted 4.5 km looped trail along the waterway and through Ballinamore town, where you'll find shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, along with historic sites such as the 1830s Old Court House and a 19th-century arched bridge. The town also has a hotel for those wishing to stay overnight. You can also cycle the Shannon-Erne Waterway or take a guided canoe tour through the scenic County Leitrim countryside. Moor up at Ballinamore and explore this tranquil canal town on foot or by bike.
