About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026The "I Canapi" harbour in Carate Urio lies on the western shore of Lake Como, just north of the town centre, by the two merged hamlets of Carate and Urio. The facility is of modern design and consists of three floating pontoons connected to shore by gangways.
Mooring is done with mooring lines (trappe) and a bow line to the pontoon. There are no guest berths in the harbour – the berths are either privately owned or rented on a permanent basis. No draft problems have been reported, except in the area right beneath the adjacent car park. The waters off Carate lie in a widening of the lake, where winds are often light, while northerly winds can bring a short, steep wave. In the morning the thermal Tivano wind blows at around 6-7 knots, and in the afternoon the more unstable Breva at around 5 knots.
Water is available on the quay, and the harbour has waste sorting, but no chandlery. Close by you'll find a bar and a grocery shop, as well as a car park right by the harbour; the prominent white Hotel Larius stands near the car park.
In the immediate surroundings you'll find several noble villas with splendid gardens – a natural part of the view while your boat lies moored at I Canapi.
