About the harbour

Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026

Carrick-on-Shannon is a public marina and guest jetty right in the town centre on Ireland's longest river, the Shannon, in County Leitrim. The town is known as a hub for river cruising, home to boat-hire operators such as Carrickcraft, from where you can continue to Lough Key, Lough Allen, or via the Shannon-Erne Waterway to Lough Erne.

The public quay lies downstream of the Cumann na mBan Bridge, with access to the berths via a recently renewed 340-metre floating walkway fitted with access gangways and lifebuoy housings. On the Shannon Navigation and the Shannon-Erne Waterway, boats may normally berth at the public jetties for up to five consecutive days or seven days in total per month, and a Waterways Ireland smart card gives access to service blocks, locks and electrical power at the jetties.

At the waterfront you'll find toilets, showers and fresh water taps, as well as a convenient car park. The marina also has a fuel berth for diesel. Note that the pump-out facility has at times been out of service due to technical issues.

Step ashore and you're straight into the lively town centre with shops, restaurants and a lively pub scene. Within easy walking distance you'll find Costello's Chapel — thought to be the world's second smallest church — Market Yard, the remains of the old gaol, and The Dock Arts Centre housed in the former courthouse.
