About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 30 September 2026Vila do Conde lies at the mouth of the River Ave on Portugal's northern Costa Verde coast and is officially designated a porto de abrigo (harbour of refuge) for recreational boating. The marina, known as Cais das Lavadeiras, offers berths for around 60 boats.
The marina sits right in the historic heart of the town, close to the old customs house (Alfândega) and the former shipyard area, where the town's maritime heritage is still visible along the quay.
Within walking distance of the marina you'll find several of the town's main sights, including Praça da República, the Igreja Matriz and the medieval Mosteiro de Santa Clara, as well as the Santa Clara aqueduct. The town beach and a range of restaurants and cafés in the old town are also close by.
Berth in Vila do Conde and step ashore into a town steeped in maritime history.
