About the harbour

Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedfrom the harbour's website · 27 September 2026

Franeker Watersport Vereniging runs a quiet and safe marina beautifully situated on the Van Harinxmakanaal. The marina has open berths for sailing and motor boats as well as a number of boat houses, and guest sailors are very welcome alongside the permanent berth holders. Coming from Harlingen the marina lies to port after the Frisiabrug bridge, from Leeuwarden to starboard after the Stationsbrug bridge, past the De Valk and Draaisma yards - the entrance is marked with a sign. Sailing time from Franeker to Harlingen (to the Tjerk Hiddeszsluizen locks) is about 45 minutes, and to Leeuwarden about one and a half hours by sailing boat. Electricity and drinking water are available on the pontoon, and there is a pump-out station for wastewater tanks. The marina has toilets and showers, and you can borrow bicycles free of charge. For children there is a playground with a swing and see-saw, and picnic tables are set out on the lawn. The marina offers free wifi around the clock for both permanent and guest boaters. Franeker's historic town centre, with many beautiful old buildings, is just a 9-minute walk or 3-minute bike ride away - make use of the free bicycles for the trip. Berth up at the guest pontoon and walk or cycle into Franeker's charming centre.
