About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 30 September 2026Dromod is a well-kept harbour on the Shannon Navigation in County Leitrim, where Lough Boderg and Lough Bofin meet. Alongside the public harbour sits the private Waterfront Marina, built in 1997, offering over 50 berths for a mix of sports boats and cruisers.
On the Shannon Navigation and Shannon-Erne Waterway, craft may berth in public harbours for up to five consecutive days or a total of seven days in any one month.
The harbour's service block, accessed with a Waterways Ireland smart card, provides toilets, showers, laundry facilities, pump-out and power on the jetty, and there is fresh water and a pump-out station at the public quay - note that these facilities are occasionally taken offline temporarily for technical maintenance or power outages. The private marina also offers full chandlery services. Within walking distance you'll find a grocery shop as well as several bars and restaurants, and there is free parking near the harbour and the railway museum.
The village has around 750 residents and is home to the Cavan & Leitrim Railway Museum, with exhibits of locomotives, vintage aircraft and vehicles plus a short steam train ride. In the village you'll also find the 'Weeping Tree' sculpture, and the railway station on the Dublin-Sligo line is a short walk from the harbour. The area offers kayaking, canoeing, fishing and cycling, and Dromod is a starting point on the Shannon Blueway Trail.
