About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Hållö is a nature island south of Smögen in Bohuslän, part of the Hållö archipelago nature reserve. On the island's east side lies a popular guest harbour used by sailors visiting the island's pink granite rocks and swimming spots.
The harbour sits in a narrow, cosy channel on the southern/eastern part of the island, where local boating sources say there is room for around 12-15 boats when well packed, with a water depth of 2-4 metres. The north-western part of the island, by contrast, is exposed to wind and swell and is not recommended for anchoring. During summer, excursion boats and a regular Hållö ferry run several times daily from Smögenbryggan and from Kungshamn.
At the converted youth hostel, Utpost Hållö, near the lighthouse, you'll find a small café where you can enjoy ice cream and coffee a few steps from the hostel. The hostel also has conference facilities, a banqueting room, a chapel and a naturum.
Hållö offers beautifully smooth granite outcrops, ground by ancient glaciers, and the famous Marmorbassängen with its crystal-clear turquoise water is the island's best-known swimming spot. Bohuslän's oldest lighthouse, Hållö lighthouse, stands on the island's highest point and offers guided tours in summer. Near Slättehälla you'll find several giant's kettles, one of which is four metres deep. Sail out to Hållö and discover the nature reserve's rugged coastal scenery and famous swimming waters close to Smögen.
