About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Hallshuk is an old, unprotected fishing harbour on Gotland's northernmost point, along the western shore of Kappelshamnsviken. Below the steep harbour cliff lies the port with its fishing huts on the steep shore bank. The harbour is leased to the Hallshuk fishing village association, while Region Gotland's harbour department holds overall responsibility.
Nearby stands the Hallshuk fishermen's chapel, built by Queen Christina in 1645 for use by the local fishermen. The area is part of the Hall-Hangvar nature reserve, established in 1967 to preserve the barren, sparsely populated landscape. At Hallshuk the cliffs rise up to 25 metres above the sea with wide views over Kappelshamnsviken, and the site once served as a pilot station for about 150 years while the lighthouse was manned for 50 years. Hikers can follow the coastal path between Kappelshamn and Hallshuk through this dramatic cliff landscape.
