About the harbour
Porto de Recreio do Guadiana is situated on a sandy plain on the right bank of the Guadiana, one of the largest navigable rivers, which forms the border between Portugal and Spain, at the river's mouth in eastern Algarve. The marina's entrance at the southern end is narrow, approximately 20 metres. Entry must never be made before midflood in daylight; the bar can become violent during ebb, especially with swells from the south and strong winds from seaward; on departure ensure you reach the bar before dusk. The port monitors VHF 12, 16 and 20 and has 360 permanent berths.
Power and fresh water are available at some berths, together with a fuel station, showers and toilets, sailmaker, shops and restaurants. The marina has a travel lift with a 5-tonne capacity for washing and painting small boats. The restaurant and snack bar are located in the new reception building north of the port and open daily; the snack bar operates from 9 to 24 (September to June) and 9 to 1 am (July and August), the restaurant serves lunch 12–15 and dinner 18:30–22:30.
The marina is just a few minutes from the town's sports complex and 3 km from Monte Gordo Bay, with its golden sand beaches and casino.
