About the harbour

Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026

Strengen brygge is located on Lake Flåvatn along the Telemark Canal, in the municipality of Nome in Telemark. The quay was originally built by the road authority in connection with a road project between Ulefoss and Strengen in 1853, and the site was at the time an important hub for the scheduled boats on the so-called Vestvanna (Flåvatn, Kviteseidvatn and Bandak). Today Strengen brygge serves as a guest harbour for small boats and is also a gathering point for holiday homes in the area.

The historic buildings at the quay are still visible: a yellow warehouse and a red building that once housed the timber-floating operation's coal house and workshop. The quay was once the starting point for timber floating on Bandak, Kviteseidvatn and Flåvatn, and the tugboat DS Axel was based at the old floating-company quay right next to the canal quay.

Nearby are remnants of the old road between Ulefoss and Strengen, of which about 3 km has been preserved and can today be used for cycling. The area offers a quiet, idyllic atmosphere with views over Flåvatn.
