About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Sunnansjö hamn, also known as Väsmankajen, is not an active marina but a historic harbour site by Lake Väsman in Sunnansjö, Ludvika Municipality. The harbour was located in one of Väsman's northwestern bays near Sunnansjö bruk, just south of Sunnansjö herrgård.
The site once served as an important cargo harbour, from which iron shipments were sent across the lake for centuries, mainly to the harbour at Marnäs in Ludvika. Until 1932 the steamship S/S Grangärde operated between Ludvika and Sunnansjö carrying both goods and passengers, but regular shipping traffic ceased in 1932.
The land by the jetty is today common land owned by the Sunnansjö Samfällighetsförening. Together with Sunnansjö Byalag, the association rebuilt the current jetty in 2001, and an information board describing the site's history as a former communications hub has been placed there.
As there is no sourced information about modern guest berths or boater facilities, the site today serves mainly as a historic waterside attraction rather than a functioning guest harbour.
