About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 30 September 2026Doca de Recreio das Fontaínhas is a river marina in the western part of Setúbal, at the mouth of the Sado river, with room for around 150 boats, of which 140 are permanent berths. The marina also offers berths for passing/guest boats and is divided into an East and a West side, one intended for smaller boats and the other for somewhat larger vessels. A dedicated area is also set aside for traditional Sado boats used for tourist trips on the river.
The marina lies sheltered inside the Bay of Setúbal and monitors VHF channel 16. Access to the marina is restricted/controlled, and right opposite the entrance is the ferry pier to Tróia, so extra vigilance is worthwhile on arrival. When sailing past the western tip of Tróia, also watch out for sandbanks in the area.
The berths have water and electricity, and the marina offers sanitary facilities with showers/changing rooms, waste collection and fire-fighting equipment. There is also a fuel supply within the harbour area, and a restaurant is part of the offering at the dock.
Just a few minutes' walk from the marina brings you to Setúbal's old town with pleasant shopping, and both the cathedral and the municipal library are only a few hundred metres away. A car ferry to the Tróia peninsula also departs from the marina. Tie up and set out to explore Setúbal's old quarters and the Sado estuary.
