About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedfrom the harbour's website · 27 September 2026Franeker Watersport Vereniging runs a marina beautifully situated on the Van Harinxmakanaal, a quiet and safe harbour maintained by the club's own members. There are open berths for sailing and motor boats plus a number of boathouses for motor boats, and visiting yachtsmen are very welcome.
Coming from Harlingen, the marina lies to port just after the Frisiabrug; coming from Leeuwarden, it lies to starboard after the Stationsbrug, past the De Valk and Draaisma boatyards. The entrance is marked with a sign. Sailing time from Franeker to Harlingen (to the Tjerk Hiddeszsluizen) is about 45 minutes, and to Leeuwarden about one and a half hours for a sailing yacht.
The marina offers guest berths with shore power and drinking water on the pontoon, a pump-out station for waste water, toilets and showers, free bicycles for guests, a playground for children, picnic tables, and free wifi throughout the harbour.
Franeker's town centre, with its many beautiful historic buildings, is just a 9-minute walk or a 3-minute cycle away - on one of the marina's free bicycles. Tie up at the guest berth and cycle the 3 minutes into the historic town centre.
