About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Hvalpsund Lystbådehavn is a modern municipal marina on the Limfjord, situated on the narrow stretch between Hvalpsund and Sundsøre on the Louns peninsula. The marina has 236 boat slips and serves as a natural meeting point for sailors, as the town has access to three fjords – the Limfjord, Skive Fjord and Hjarbæk Fjord.
The marina can be entered around the clock in bright, clear weather, but be aware that currents at the harbour entrance can push 2-3 knots across the channel during tidal changes. A speed limit of 3 knots applies inside the harbour basin. From Hvalpsund it is roughly 8 nautical miles to Virksund, about 10 nautical miles to both Skive and Fur, and around 13 nautical miles to the protected island of Livø.
The service building houses a sailors' lounge, a newly renovated kitchen seating 18 people, showers and toilets, plus a washing machine and dryer. Water and electricity can be used freely at the berths, and there are waste and glass recycling containers by the service building. The cosy barbecue area is a popular gathering spot, and just south of the harbour lies a child-friendly beach with tables and benches. The marina also has a wide slipway. During summer, a local trumpeter plays the sun down every evening at the harbour.
Just a few minutes' walk away you'll find Dagli'Brugsen, a grocery store with a bakery and a diesel/petrol pump, open daily from 7am to 7pm.
