About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Kabelvåg is an old fishing village in Vågan municipality in Nordland, located on the southern shore of Austvågøya in Lofoten, west of Svolvær. The village is considered Lofoten's oldest and formerly also largest fishing settlement, with a history dating back to medieval times.
In the centre of Kabelvåg there is a small floating dock where visiting sailors can moor. Note that the floating dock is fairly small, so space can be tight. As an alternative, older wooden piers nearby can be used with permission from the private owner.
Right above the dock you'll find a restaurant, making it easy to get a meal shortly after mooring.
Kabelvåg is described as a cosy old town with a central heart full of restaurants, cafés and art galleries. Within walking distance you'll also find Vågan Church – known as the «Lofotkatedralen» (Lofoten Cathedral) – which with its 1,200 seats is the largest wooden church north of Trondheim, as well as the culture and tourist centre in Storvågan with the Lofoten Museum, the Lofoten Aquarium and Espolin Gallery. Tie up at the small floating dock and experience the genuine atmosphere of Lofoten's historic capital.
