About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Kleppestøhopen is a small municipal guest harbour in Kleppestø, the administrative centre of Askøy municipality in Vestland county, on the southeastern coast of the island of Askøy and connected to Bergen by the Askøy Bridge.
The guest quay lies on your starboard side as you enter the harbour, while the quay to port is clearly marked as private. Under Askøy municipality's rules for its municipal piers, the maximum stay is 24 hours unless special permission has been obtained. The harbour is small, with room for around two larger boats up to 40 feet, and reports from visitors vary: deep inside the harbour it is said to be calm and sheltered, while others describe the harbour as narrow and restless, with limited protection from waves caused by weather, wind and passing traffic on the fjord outside. Parts of the quay are plain concrete without extra protection, so the harbour is best suited to smaller boats.
From the harbour it is within walking distance to Kleppestø, the commercial centre of Askøy with many shops and eateries. Here you'll find the Kleppestø senter shopping mall with more than 50 stores, along with a pharmacy, bank, post office and the state alcohol monopoly store (Vinmonopolet).
Tie up here and you're just steps from Askøy's town life — though pick a calm day, as the quay offers little shelter from swell off the fjord.
