About the harbour

Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026

Port de Carcassonne is a canal harbour in the heart of the town of Carcassonne, situated on the UNESCO-listed Canal du Midi. The harbour is run by the municipality under a concession with Voies Navigables de France and has been designated one of the canal's nine key sites for interpreting its history dating back to the 1666 Édit.

The harbour office is open every day of the week from March to October/November (depending on navigation conditions), typically from 8:45am-11:30am and 1pm-7pm. The port is monitored during the day by the harbour office and at night by a security company, and the pontoons are fitted with water and electricity.

At the pontoons you'll find water and shore power, plus toilets, showers and hairdryers in the sanitary block. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also available for a fee, along with free wifi (though only in the main basin). A tourist information desk from the town's tourist office is based within the harbour office itself, making it easy to get help planning your stay.

Just 100 metres from the harbour lies the Bastide Saint-Louis, the town centre, offering a multitude of shops, bars, restaurants, grocery stores and local crafts, plus a market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. From here you can also explore the medieval Cité de Carcassonne, and every summer the town comes alive with a festival featuring concerts, opera and dance. Moor up at Port de Carcassonne and explore this historic canal town on foot.
