About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Ring-Andersen is not a traditional marina but a well-known wooden shipyard located in the middle of Svendborg Harbour on the island of Frederiksø. The yard was founded in 1867 by Jørgen Ring-Andersen and is today one of Denmark's oldest wooden shipyards still in active operation, run by the same family through several generations.
The yard specialises in repairing and restoring older wooden vessels as well as some steel ships. A large part of Denmark's wooden ship fleet, along with vessels from countries such as Germany, is serviced alongside the quay, on the yard's slipways, and in the floating dock. Over the years around 200 wooden ships have been launched from here, including well-known vessels such as Lilla Dan, Helge, Activ, Seute Deern and Carene Star.
As Ring-Andersen sits within Svendborg Harbour itself, it's close to the port's wider maritime activity of island ferries, working vessels, and old wooden ships. The yard itself is part of the experience for visiting sailors, who can watch traditional shipbuilding craftsmanship up close while old wooden ships are worked on along the quay.
If you have an interest in classic wooden ships and traditional shipbuilding craftsmanship, a stop by the yard on Frederiksø is well worth it while berthed in Svendborg.
