Yachtschule Overschmidt

Yachtschule Overschmidt is a long-established sailing and motorboat school with boat rental, located on the Aasee lake in the heart of Münster. Founded in 1949, the school has spent more than seven decades teaching generations of people to sail and handle motorboats. The Aasee is an artificial lake of about 40 hectares, roughly 2.3-2.5 km long, with an average depth of only 2 metres, forming a central recreational area for the city.

Around the lake you'll also find another sailing school and two sailing clubs, and the sailing area is known for sometimes tricky, shifting wind conditions caused by the surrounding buildings along the shore. Note that the sailing jetty is periodically closed for events such as rowing regattas.

Within walking distance of the Aasee you'll find restaurants, cafés and hotels, the solar-powered excursion boat Solaaris, the Allwetterzoo, the Mühlenhof open-air museum, and the LWL Museum of Natural History with its planetarium. The Aasee area is only about a 15-minute walk from Münster's main railway station and the Prinzipalmarkt.
