About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Alter Hafen in Brunsbüttel is a tidal harbour run by the Seglervereinigung Brunsbüttel, set scenically among reeds and poplar trees right where the River Elbe meets the Kiel Canal. The harbour lies a little outside the town of Brunsbüttel itself and offers around 95 berths for sailing and motor boats from April to September.
Approach is via a narrow, marked channel where tidal conditions matter a great deal — the harbour dries out at low water and tends to silt up, so it's wise to follow the markers carefully and preferably time your arrival around high water. Guest berths are located in front of the pumping station on the west side of the harbour, as well as at spots marked with green signs. The harbourmaster's office is centrally located in a modern multi-purpose building.
All berths have access to fresh water and shore power, and waste disposal facilities are available in the harbour. Sailors can also use the recently renovated sanitary facilities and two pleasant barbecue spots within the harbour area.
Stepping ashore, you'll find restaurants, a bakery and a couple of cosy pubs within walking distance, and Alter Hafen is closer to the town's shopping centre than the Kanalhafen is. Tie up at Alter Hafen and enjoy its calm, green setting right at the entrance to the Kiel Canal.
