About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Buavåg is a small guest harbour in Sveio municipality in Vestland county, run by Sveio Båtforening (the local boat association) and located right next to the ferry quay towards Bømlo. The harbour is strategically placed for boats about to cross, or having just crossed, the open stretch known as "Sletta", in both summer and winter.
The recommended approach is from the west, keeping well to starboard towards the marker stakes and respecting the buoyage. The breakwater at the entrance has recently been extended, so only the western channel can now be used to enter the harbour; also watch out for a rope at the end of the pontoon. Harbour depth is reported at up to around 5 metres, with room for only a handful of guest boats – sources mention between 4 and 6-7 guest berths. Guest fees of roughly 100-150 NOK depending on boat size are mentioned, along with a small extra charge for shore power per day.
On the pontoon you'll find shore power and fresh water, while toilets and showers are available at the waiting room by the ferry quay. There is also a waste container and a launching ramp for smaller boats. The car ferry provides good bus connections onward to Haugesund and Sveio centre.
Right by the ferry quay you'll find a tennis court and a beach volleyball court, and within walking distance there are swimming spots both in the sea at Grunnavåg and in fresh water at Storavatnet.
