About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Cais da Régua is a historic quay on the right bank of the Douro River in the town of Peso da Régua, in the Vila Real District of northern Portugal. The quay was originally built in the 18th century for loading and unloading Port wine, which the traditional rabelo boats carried from the Douro Valley's quintas onward to Porto.
Today Cais da Régua mainly serves as a departure and arrival point for river cruises on the Douro, including trips to Porto and to Pinhão, and the quay lies within the area administered by the port authority APDL along the navigable stretch of the Douro.
A riverside promenade makes the spot a popular place for a stroll, especially in the evening light, when you can enjoy views of the terraced vineyards on the opposite bank and the colourful rabelo boats moored at the quay.
Just a few hundred metres from the quay you'll find Museu do Douro, housed in the former premises of the Real Companhia Velha, featuring a collection tied to the region's wine culture along with a shop, restaurant, and wine bar overlooking the Douro. The region's railway station, Régua Station, is also within walking distance. Take a quiet evening walk along the quay and take in the view over the Douro Valley while the rabelo boats bob gently in the water.
