About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Damhus Å Havn is a charming small dinghy harbour on Nissum Fjord in northwestern Jutland, often used by local fishermen. The harbour is open to the public, and boat owners are welcome to launch their boats and sail out onto the fjord. The channels silt up during winter and are cleared each spring by the local boat associations, which fund the harbour's operation partly through annual harbour festivals. The harbour is run by volunteers, and its members include local residents, holiday-home owners from the Skalstrup holiday-home area, and visitors from further afield, who sail out for flounder, whitefish and herring, and use the harbour as a base for the autumn duck hunt.
At the harbour you'll find shelters, a bonfire hut and a packed-lunch hut, as well as an information board about the area. There is a parking area at the harbour.
From Damhus Å Havn you can follow a marked route of about 4 km along footpaths through a scenic area by Nissum Fjord, passing Harpøth Havn on the way to Sandbæknæs Fjordhytte – part of the longer Nissum Fjord trail that allows you to walk all the way around the fjord. The route is open to walkers only (not cyclists), and remember that you are a guest on private landowners' property. If you fancy a peaceful day by the water combining boating life with a walk through scenic surroundings, Damhus Å Havn is a good starting point.
