About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Vinterlejehavn in Haurvig is an old fjord harbour on Ringkøbing Fjord, south of Hvide Sande on Holmsland Klit. The current harbour area was formed in the early 1900s, but the harbour's history can actually be traced back to the 1700s, when shipowners from Ringkøbing used the site at Vinterleje Banke as the place where they hauled their ships ashore for the winter. Here you can watch the fjord fishermen sail in and out of the harbour as they head out onto the fjord and return with their catch. The homeowners' association in Haurvig has the right of disposal over the northern part of Vinterlejehavn, which is set up as a marina, but only members with a berth have permanent access to keep a boat in the harbour.
Within walking distance you'll find the West Jutland dunes and the North Sea, and the area is characterised by good cycle paths through the holiday home area, away from the road and just behind the dunes. A quarter of an hour's drive south of Hvide Sande, in the peaceful holiday area of Haurvig, lies the charming Vinterleje Havn, and Hvide Sande itself offers a lively harbour atmosphere, shops and restaurants. Stop by and experience the atmospheric old fjord harbour, where the fishing life still leaves its mark.
