About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Vinterleje Havn is a small, cosy fjord harbour located on the fjord side of Ringkøbing Fjord, roughly midway between Hvide Sande and Nymindegab, in the quiet holiday area of Haurvig on the Holmsland Klit peninsula. The present-day harbour facility was built in the early 1900s, though the harbour's history goes back to the 18th century, when shipowners from Ringkøbing used the site to lay up their merchant vessels for the winter, at a time when there was a natural connection between the fjord and the North Sea. The northern part of the harbour is today managed by the Haurvig landowners' association, which has set it up as a marina; only members with a berth have permanent access to keep a boat there, and those wishing for a spot are placed on a waiting list with the harbour chairman.
Today the small fjord harbour is mainly used by recreational anglers, who fish for flounder in the fjord among other things.
Right next to the small harbour basin, up on a dune, there is a viewpoint with seating, from which you can enjoy a fine panoramic view across the fjord, along the dunes and out towards the North Sea – from here you can also spot the old seamark at Haurvig. If you want to explore further afield, Hvide Sande, with shops and restaurants, is a short drive to the north.
