About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 28 September 2026Katthammarsvik is a small harbour and former fishing settlement on Gotland's east coast, in the Östergarn parish. The place has a centuries-old history as a shipping harbour for limestone, burnt lime and timber products, and today it bears the mark of old limestone-industry manor houses mixed with wooden houses and summer cottages.
The approach follows a transit line, and according to a local guest harbour guide the depth is around 2.7 metres on the western side of the main harbour pier. A wooden jetty is in place, though the mooring buoys have been removed, and the harbour is now regarded more as a natural anchorage than a formal guest harbour. One guide states there are around five guest berths, but sources disagree on whether a harbour fee is charged, so it is worth checking conditions before you arrive.
Facilities at the berths themselves are limited and somewhat uncertain – according to one harbour host there is neither toilet nor shower, and no other services are offered at the guest berths. There is, however, a car park where the road ends down by the harbour, and Katthammarsviks Rökeri, a long-standing smokehouse with a restaurant that has existed since 1943 and is run by the same family in its third generation, open all year round. A grocery shop, petrol, diesel and gas are available about 1.5 km from the harbour.
Going ashore, you'll find a small beach in the middle of the village with both grass and sand plus a bathing jetty.
