About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Thorsminde Havn is an active fishing harbour located by the drainage sluice from Nissum Fjord on the west coast of Jutland, where the North Sea and the fjord meet. The harbour is home to a small, professional fishing fleet and was selected in 2022 as the service harbour for the German energy company RWE in connection with the construction of the Thor offshore wind project.
Thorsminde is not a dedicated marina, but pleasure sailors are welcome and berth alongside active fishing vessels and offshore ships. Take particular care when entering and leaving the harbour, as the current and water depth vary depending on whether the sluice to the fjord is open or closed. Passage through the chamber lock is possible between 07:00 and 21:30 after registering by phone. If you need to reach the North Sea outside these hours, you are referred to quay berths at the pier in Vesthavnen among the fishing vessels.
The harbour offers newer toilet and shower facilities as well as the possibility to buy provisions. Water and shore power are available directly at the quays, and there is waste handling on site. There are also good slipways, both to the North Sea in Vesthavnen and to Nissum Fjord at Gammel Havn.
Within walking distance you'll find the Strandingsmuseum St. George, which tells the story of shipwrecks along the west coast. Come and berth in a lively working harbour where fishing and offshore activity continues around the clock.
