About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Thorsminde Vesthavn is an active fishing and service harbour on the Jutland west coast, established in 1967 by the drainage sluice from Nissum Fjord. The harbour covers an area of around 100,000 square metres with up to 900 metres of quay and today also serves as a service harbour for the Thor offshore wind farm project in the North Sea.
As a recreational sailor you are welcome, even though Thorsminde is not a traditional marina – here you moor among active fishing vessels and offshore ships in a harbour that operates around the clock. Water depth in the entrance sector and outer harbour is 5 metres, while the other harbour basins have 4 metres. The current at the entrance varies depending on whether the sluice to the fjord is open or closed, so extra caution is required when entering and leaving. Passage through the chamber lock is possible between 07:00-21:30 after phoning ahead; outside these hours you are directed to quay berths at pier 1 and 2 in Vesthavnen among the fishing vessels.
The harbour offers new toilet and shower facilities as well as the possibility to buy provisions. Shore power and water are available on the quays, along with waste disposal, diesel and petrol, a slipway, a small chandlery, wifi and parking.
Going ashore, you'll find the town of Thorsminde with its beach and access to Nissum Fjord just a short distance from the harbour – a great place to experience a lively west Jutland fishing harbour up close.
