Varde Havn

Varde Havn lies far inland on the Varde River, where Varde Sejlklub has its club island surrounded by the river. The harbour is part of Denmark's guest-berth network (frihavnsordning) and is reached after a sail of roughly one and a half hours from the entrance at Ho Bugt.

Note that the Varde River is tidal and can only be navigated near high water — you should always arrive on a rising tide. At Tarphage, high water occurs about one hour later than at Esbjerg, and if your boat draws more than roughly 95 cm you risk running aground in the river.

At the club island there is a guest berth running along the quay, and in the clubhouse visiting sailors can use showers, toilets, a kitchen and a cosy lounge with wifi. A key to the facilities can be borrowed from the harbourmaster.

Around the harbour, Varde offers a relaxed maritime atmosphere with both fishing boats and leisure craft, and you can take a walk along the waterfront and watch local fishermen at work. Nearby you'll also find several cosy cafés and restaurants serving fish dishes and local specialities, as well as the scenic Varde River valley, part of the Vadehavet National Park.
