About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Melsted Havn is a small private harbour on Bornholm's north coast, well protected between the skerries Sorteskær and Guleskær. The harbour was built in 1884 from granite fieldstones and is today home port for around 50 small boats and skiffs, but also welcomes small visiting yachts.
The harbour can be entered during daylight in clear and visible weather, though entry is discouraged when the wind is from the north or northeast. The Melsted reef south of the harbour is marked with a red stake and lies underwater, so the marking must be strictly respected due to shallow water. In summer the harbour is often crowded, and it can be difficult to find a free berth.
At and around the harbour you'll find toilets, fresh water and electricity, as well as a boat ramp and shopping options. Petrol and diesel can be bought at the filling station in Gudhjem, about 1 km from the harbour.
Melsted is an old fishing hamlet with small well-kept half-timbered houses and narrow winding streets, where four houses still have their original smokehouse chimneys from the herring smoking of days gone by. East of the harbour lies an attractive sandy beach at the foot of an old seaside hotel housing a gourmet restaurant, and about 300 metres from the harbour you'll find the Melstedgaard Agricultural Museum. Head to Melsted and experience the authentic atmosphere of the old fishing hamlet.
