About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Strandbyen Havn is a small fishing harbour by the village of Ommel on the north-east coast of Ærø, facing Halmø Sund. The harbour was built between 1945 and 1950 to give the village's fishing boats better protection, and it is today run by the Strandbyen Havne- og Broforening association, which has around 100 members.
The entrance channel is maintained by the association and reaches a depth of about 1.5 metres roughly 100 metres from the harbour. The harbour is now mainly used by anglers and also serves as an access point to the neighbouring island of Halmø.
At the harbour you'll find a public slipway, a tent/camping area, and a bathing beach with seating. Opposite the small parking area is a playground that visitors are welcome to use, and barbecues are often set up there in summer. There's also a box with crab fishing rods and buckets for free use.
The harbour is close to Ommel, known as the "Skipperlandsbyen" (skipper village) with its narrow streets and old houses. The beach by the harbour has both sand and grass, a nice spot to relax for hours.
