About the harbour
Automatically summarised text: Automatically summarisedvia web search · 29 September 2026Tyskerhavnen is a small, charming fjord harbour right in the middle of Hvide Sande, on the shore of Ringkøbing Fjord. The harbour was built in 1912 to receive ships carrying materials for the construction of the sluice between the fjord and the North Sea, making it older than the town of Hvide Sande itself, which was only founded in 1931. Today, Tyskerhavnen is home to local fjord fishermen who still land their catch here, as they have done for more than a hundred years.
The harbour has kept its authenticity and feels like a place where time stood still in the middle of town. Here, the fishermen's small dinghies lie side by side with houseboats, and the old, colourful tool sheds along the quay give the place its distinctive character. In summer, artists stay at the small artist residence ART 56 by the harbour, and benches by the water invite a pause with views over the dinghy harbour and the fjord. The name Tyskerhavnen has nothing to do with the Second World War, but is believed to stem from locals in the early 1900s calling the area south of the harbour "Germany".
The harbour sits in the heart of Hvide Sande, within easy reach of the town's shops and restaurants as well as the fjord and beach. If you want to experience authentic fjord life in a harbour where the fishing heritage is still easy to read, a walk to Tyskerhavnen is a natural stop on your way through town.
